Notably Excited: Announcement of the 2020 CBCA Notables

February 26th, 2020

Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) celebrate the best in Australian children’s literature with the CBCA Book of the Year Awards. We are thrilled to announce that two of our titles, Windcatcher and A Hollow Is a Home, have made the Notables (longlist) in 2020.

A Hollow Is a Home and Windcatcher have been recognised in the 2020 CBCA Notables list!

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians. Established in 1945, the CBCA (external link) was founded at a time when Australian children’s books were few, and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown.

The CBCA awards were established just one year later, in 1946, to promote children’s books of high literary and artistic quality. These annual awards are now one of the most influential and highly respected in Australia.

The 2020 Notables (external link) represents a wide variety of wonderful Australian children’s books and creators from across the country.

We are thrilled to announce that two of our titles have been recognised on the Notables list (longlist).

Windcatcher: Migration of the Short-tailed Shearwater, written by Diane Jackson Hill and illustrated by Craig Smith, has been longlisted for the Picture Book of the Year.

And A Hollow Is a Home, written by Abbie Mitchell and illustrated by Astred Hicks, has been longlisted for the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books.

We’d like to congratulate the authors and illustrators on this outstanding achievement. And we’d like to thank the CBCA for the work they do in supporting writers, illustrators and publishers in Australia.

We will wait with eager anticipation for the Short List announcement in March!
